Club Championships 2022
The 2022 Championships saw a larger number of entries and lots of fantastic matches across the five main competitions as well as in four plate competitions; in Men’s Singles, and Mixed, Ladies and and Men’s Doubles (for those who lost in the first round of the main draw.)
Main Finals Day
On finals day, both ladies' and men's singles finals were keenly contested. Vicky eventually got the better of Fi, despite nursing an injury. As a repeat of last year's men's singles final the match between Simon and Paul saw some incredibly long and skillful rallies as they traded two close sets, and again as last year a championship tie-break was needed to separate them; Simon eventually prevailed to retain the trophy.
The ladies doubles, played on Saturday, featured a well-fought match that belied the score. In the men’s doubles, singles winner Simon paired up with Conor to retain their title. They prevailed 6-4, 6-4 over Paul and Marc. In the mixed doubles youth had to yield to experience as Vicky and Doug needed to dig deep in the first set tie-break to ensure they won over Millie and Alex.
The possible record number of spectators witnessed a high standard of tennis throughout the afternoon, with many fine serves, exquisite angled volleys, strategic lobs and fearsome rallies. Grateful thanks go to Andy for arranging the whole championships, Alan and Hailey for grilling huge numbers of barbeque sausages and burgers, and to Sue and many others others for providing salad, keg beer, tea and cakes throughout the afternoon.
